GB Liners Partners With The Trussell Trust Foodbank

Thirteen million people live below the poverty line in the UK, with individuals going hungry every day for a range of reasons, from benefit delays to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. The Trussell Trust’s 400-strong network of foodbanks provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK.

In 2015/16, the trust gave 1,109,309 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis! In order to help the crucial service continue, GB Liners were keen to play a small part and, being well placed to collect unwanted foodstuffs from clients leaving the UK, are delighted to collect and deliver these items free of charge to the trust.

Mark Burnett, Account Manager, said “We are generally among the last people in peoples homes before they leave the UK. We are emptying and packing cupboards every day so it was logical that we simply set aside a carton or two for food that can’t be shipped. As Customs around the world become stricter and stricter, shipping food overseas is more and more problematic so this is a great way to avoid throwing perfectly usable food away. The packing crew simply return the cartons of food to our warehouse and we arrange delivery to the local receiving warehouse asap,”
